Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday, February 26, in Berlin that Romania counts on Germany’s support to find a solution which would help it move towards achieving the goal of joining the Schengen area.

Iohannis met German Chancellor Angela Merkel and German President Joachim Gauck during his official visit to Berlin.

Merkel however said that she can’t promise anything about a decision on Romania joining Schengen this year, but that she noticed the positive Verification and Cooperation Mechanism reports on Romania, reports local Mediafax.

She also added that future steps on this topic will be discussed.
