Prince Charles meets President, PM during his yearly visit to Romania
His Royal Highness Prince Charles of Wales will be in Bucharest today, May 30, where he will meet President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos.
Prince Charles' visits in Romania, in early summer, have become a tradition in recent years. The heir to the British throne owns several properties in Transylvania, in remote Saxon villages, and last year launched a foundation that which supports architectural heritage preservation, farming, and sustainable development in Romania.
Iohannis will welcome Prince Charles at Cotroceni Palace at around 15:40, according to information from the Romanian Presidential Administration.
The two have previously met in late May last year, during yet another one of Prince Charles’ visits in Romania. The meeting took place at the Cotroceni Palace and it included talks about Romania’s historical and cultural heritage and the country’s involvement in theaters of operations and in combating terrorism.
At the end of the meeting, the Prince invited the Romanian President to visit the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, invitation accepted by the President.
The meeting between Dacian Ciolos and Prince Charles is scheduled to take place at 16:20, according to an announcement of the Romanian Government.
While in Romania, "His Royal Highness will spend most of his time privately in Transylvania but will travel to Viscri to publicly open ‘The Prince of Wales’s Training Centre’ to mark the first anniversary of his Foundation - Fundatia Printul de Wales," according to a statement of the British Embassy in Bucharest.
Prince Charles launched his foundation in Romania in early-June last year. The Prince of Wales Foundation aims to support heritage preservation, agriculture and sustainable development in Romania.
Prince Charles is a big fan of Romania in general and Transylvania in particular. He first visited Transylvania back in 1998 and has been spending holidays here ever since. He didn’t just bought properties in rural areas in Transylvania, but also got involved in promoting Romania and preserving its natural heritage and traditional architecture.
