Progressive-Rock Dream Team concert to take place October in Bucharest, Romania
The rock-progressive concert titled “The Progressive-Rock Dream Team” and featuring Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan, Tony MacAlpine, Derek Sherinian, will take place on October 20, 2012 at the Jukebox Venue, Bucharest.
The project, with the name chosen by the Romanian organizers, was set up by Mike Portonoy after the four musicians played together at National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) music fair, an annual event in California. The gig was followed by calls for a world tour from producers, so the prog rock veterans decided to take their show on the road.
Drummer Mike Portnoy, considered among the world's best, was a founding member of Dream Theater, playing with the band for 25 years. The multi award winning drummer was later involved in other prog rock projects, such as Transatlantic, Liquid Tension Experiment, Office of Strategic Influence (OSI) and others. After he left the band, he started to work with Avenged Sevenfold, after which he founded two further bands Adrenaline Mob and Flying Colors.
Keyboardist Derek Sherinian also played with Dream Theater in the nineties. He is one of the founders of Planet X, and has worked with Kiss, Alice Cooper and Billy Idol over the years. Currently he is part of Black Country Communion.
Tony MacAlpine is a highly regarded guitarist on the international rock. The artist is known for his solo albums and collaborations with the bass player Billy Sheehan.
Sheehan is one of the few 'stars' of the bass guitar, he has played with Mr. Big, Steve Vai, Niacin, Talas and David Lee Roth.
