Prosecutors detain Colectiv club owners

03 November 2015

The fire in Bucharest’s Colectiv club took place because there were too many people admitted in the club, high above the place’s permissible limit, but also because a firework was lighted in a place whose interior design was inadequate for such activities, according to the official investigation carried out by prosecutors.

The fire which started at the Colectiv club killed 32 and injured over 180 people on Friday evening.

The club’s owners Alin Anastasescu, Paul Gancea and Costin Mincu were detained by prosecutors yesterday evening. They are charged with manslaughter and involuntary bodily injuries.

According to witnesses, the fire started on Friday evening after the soundproofing insulation caught fire from the pyrotechnic materials used during the concert. The toxic smoke was the biggest danger, as it contained carbon monoxide and other toxic gases that burned the victims’ lungs, according to the doctors.
