Prosecutors detain Romanian psychiatrist for illegally prescribing high-risk drugs
Romanian psychiatrist Bengescu Bellu Cristian Gheorghe was detained for 24 hours on Tuesday, November 18, by prosecutors from the Anticorruption department DIICOT. He is accused of allegedly prescribing high-risk drugs without having the right to do so.
“In order to obtain improper financial benefits, defendant Bengescu Bellu Cristian Gheorghe prescribed to a patient, over a period of 27 days, a high-risk drug substitution treatment of 6,840 tablets of 2.5 mg Sintalgon, although the necessary treatment for the patient, according to his medical files, was of 2,280 tablets for a period of 30 days,” reads the DIICOT statement.
In return, he allegedly received a total of RON 600 (EUR 135). Sintalgon is usually used to treat heroin addiction.
