Bucharest, 19th of December 2012: This winter, the most famous ice ballet troupe, Saint Petersburg State Ballet on Ice, is coming to Romania with a tour which includes four cities and three different shows: „ Romeo and Juliet”, „Swan Lake” and „The Nutcracker”. The ballet is considered to be one of the jewels of Russia, and it is headed by the former soloist of the world-famous Mariinsky Ballet and the Merited Artist of Russia, Konstantin Rassadin.

The ones who choose to spend a magnificent evening with the Saint Petersburg State Ballet on Ice will be rewarded with a show put on stage by 80 ice-skating dancers, most of them have won international ice-skating competitions, outstanding choreographies and hundreds of wonderful costumes. To further enhance the magical atmoshpere created by the ice skaters, two tones of ice will also be part of the show.

After the tremendous succes they had last winter, when all of their shows were sold out, Saint Petersburg State Ballet on Ice is coming back to Romania at the beginning of 2013 to put on seven shows in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara and Sibiu. In addition to this, this year’s tour of the Saint Petersburg State Ballet on Ice is encouraged by the Embassy of the Russian Federation from Bucharest.

In Bucharest, the ballet lovers will have the chance to see „ Romeo and Juliet” (Sala Palatului, 19th of December, 19:00). „ Swan Lake” will be performed in Cluj (The National Theatre, 17th of January, at 18:00 and 21:00) and the people from Timisoara and Sibiu will have the opportunity to see „ The Nutcracker” (15th of January in Timisoara, Sala Olimpia, at 18:00 and 21:00 and 18th of January in Sibiu, Sala Transylvania, at 18:00 and 21:00).

Saint Petersburg State Ballet on Ice was founded in 1967 by the choreographer Konstantin Boyarsky, combining figure skating and ballet for the first time.

The only ballet on ice with rights to this name is currently being lead by its Artistic Director, former soloist of the world-famous Mariinsky Ballet, Merited Artist of Russia Konstantin Rassadin, a school-mate of Rudolf Nuriev. As a dancer, he has performed next to renowned artists such as Mihail Marisnikov and Natalia Makarova. Musical Director and one of the co-founders of the Ballet is Leo Korkhin, prominent Russian conductor who conducts quite a number of orchestras including the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic Society named after D.Shostakovich. The ensamble contains more than 50 ice skanting dancers, most of whom are former European, World or Olympic Champions and masters of the Russian ice rink.

Since 1995, the dancers of the Saint Petersburg State Ballet on Ice have performed on both opera and theatre stages. Their repertoire includes „Swan Lake”, „Sleeping Beauty”, „Cinderella”, „The Nutcracker” and, as of this year, „Romeo and Juliet”. During these last years, tha dancers have travelled and put on shows in The United States of America, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, China, Spain, Korea, Taiwan, Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Serbia, Romania, Slovenia, Turkey, Switzerland, Colombia, Argentina. The Romanian shows began two years ago and have been more than greatly apreciated by the public.

This winter’s Saint Petersburg State Ballet on Ice tour is held by Diesel Events, with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation from Bucharest, with the hope of attracting more than 12.000 auditors.
