Romanians used more electricity in the first 11 months of 2012, but individuals made up a smaller portion of the increase. The biggest increase in electricity consumption was for public lightning, which was up 5.5 percent. Meanwhile, the population used only 1.9 percent more electricity, according to Romania's Statistics Institute (INS).

Romania used a total of 48.3 billion KWh, 0.4 percent more than during the first 11 months of 2011. Meanwhile, electricity resources were down by 2.9 percent, to some 56 billion KWh, but this fully covered the consumption.

The drop in resources was mainly caused by a drop in production, which was down 3.3 percent. The biggest decline was on the hydro power production last year, because of the drought. The production on this segment was down 21 percent, to 11.3 billion kWh. Thermal power plants managed to produce more – 0.8 percent more, up to 30 billion Kwh. Wind farms doubled their production volume, but only to 2.2 billion KWh.

Romania exported some 651 million KWh, 72 percent less than in the same period of 2011.
