Racecourse in Romania, modernized with EUR 15 mln

13 June 2016

The revamping of Romania’s only racecourse, located in Ploiesti, is almost complete. The course may soon be reopened, after some EUR 15 million investments.

The investment covers new racetracks, access roads, a parking with 200 places, stalls, hangars, and other buildings. The racecourse is owned by the Ploiesti City Hall and covers some 20 hectares, reports local Economica.net.

Bucharest’s newly elected mayor Gabriela Firea also promised that she would build a racecourse in Romania’s capital. Bucharest had the first racecourse in Romania, built in 1922, but the track was demolished in 1960 at the order of communist leader Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej and the Romexpo exhibition center was built in its place. The horses from the Bucharest racecourse were sent to Ploiesti.
