Radu Jude's Everybody in our family gets six prizes at Romania's Gopo film awards

gopo awardsThe Romanian film Everybody in our family/Toata lumea din familia noastra received six awards at the local Gopo film awards gala on Monday evening (March 25 ). Directed by Radu Jude, the film landed the Best Film, Best Director, Best Leading Actor (Șerban Pavlu), Best Actor in Secondary Role (Gabriel Spahiu) and Best Actress in Secondary Role (Mihaela Sirbu), and the Best Script awards (Radu Jude and Corina Sabău). Romania-Insider.com reviewed the film Everybody in our family here. The film previously won the grand prize at the Anonimul Film festival in 2012 and the Heart of Sarajevo award in the same year.

The winning film at the Gopo awards last year was Aurora, directed by Cristi Puiu.

The film Undeva la Palilula/Somwhere in Palilula, which had 11 nominations, got seven awards, for best costumes, best image, best setting, best original music, best sound, best makeup and hair, and best arrangement.

Turn Off the Lights, directed by Ivana Mladenovic, got the Best Director award at the Gopo gala. Holy Motors, directed by Leos Carax, landed the Best European Film award.

Over 400 professionals from the Romanian film industry voted based on the nominations in this year's Gopo awards. The event, whose gala took place at the National Opera in Bucharest, was organized by the Association for promoting Romanian Film and Babel Communications.

The Gopo awards are named after celebrated Romanian cartoonist Ion Popescu Gopo, who won a Palme D'Or at Cannes in 1957. He created 'Gopo's Man'. Trophies for the awards are shaped like Gopo's eponymous hero.
