Rare medical case: Romanian woman with heart in the right side of her chest gives birth to healthy baby
Romanian doctors from a maternity in Iasi, eastern Romania, recently faced a rare medical case.
They’ve successfully helped a young Romanian woman with the heart located in the right side of her chest - a condition also known as dextrocardia - give birth to a healthy baby.
The woman is now in recovery and her health condition is good, reports local Digi24. She gave birth, through caesarean section, to a healthy 2,3-kilogram little girl.
Doctors from the Cuza Voda maternity in Iasi and specialists from the Cardiology Institute performed the operation.
The woman not only has the heart located in the right side of her chest, but also suffers from a congenital abnormality of the heart and large blood vessels. In this case, the woman shouldn’t have gotten pregnant, according to doctors.
They say they’ve never encountered such a case before, in which a woman with such problems managed to carry the pregnancy to term.
