Registered self-employed in Romania can hire up to nine people, Senate decides

15 June 2011

Self-employed people in Romania (called Persoana Fizica Autorizata – PFA) could be able to hire other people, but not more than 9, all with work contracts. The Romanian Senate has recently decided so, although the final say in this has to come from the Lower Chamber of the Parliament (Camera Deputatilor).

Initially, the update to the emergency ordinance which regulated the self – employed activity in Romania did not mention a maximum number of employees. The registered self-employed people in Romania pay the same taxes as companies do, but benefit from simplified accounting. The biggest difference so far had been the inability to employ other people.
