Remains of late dictator Ceausescu and wife, exhumed to determine identity

Romanian forensic specialists have exhumed the remains of late dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife at the request of the couple's son, Valentin Ceausescu. He wants to establish whether the remains buried in the Bucharest Ghencea cemetery are of  his late parents. Valentin Ceausescu is the only of the couple's three children still alive.

The evidence from the exhumed bodies will be sent for a DNA testing. The remains will be re-burried in the same place.

Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife Elena were killed in 1989, during the revolution in Romania. They were send to trial and then executed by shooting. Ceausescu ruled Romania for 25 years during the communist period.
