Report: Romania's Orastie-Sibiu highway had cracks before inauguration
The Orastie-Sibiu highway, which closed one year after its opening due to the large cracks formed in the road, had cracks even before its inauguration, according to a report made by the Control Body within the Transport Ministry.
The National Highways Company (CNADNR) knew about it but decided to open the highway anyway and thus put into danger the lives of people who drove on this segment between November 2014 and September 2015, reads the report cited by local Capital.ro.
The CNADNR inspectors checked the highway segment four days before the inauguration, and the highway already had cracks. Nevertheless, the inauguration took place just a few days before the presidential elections.
Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta, who was running for President at that time, cut the ribbon.
