Retail trade turnover up 5 percent in January and February in Romania
Romania's retail turnover was up around 5 percent in the first two months of this year, compared to the same period of last year, according to data from the country's Statistics Institute (INS).
The growth was fueled by car fuel trade, which went up by 11.7 percent, as well as by the increase in sales for food, beverages and tobacco – some 5.2 percent – and non food products, 1.8 percent.
Figures for February alone however show retail trade turnover was down by 1.7 percent month-on-month, as non-food products sold less (down 5.2 percent).
Car fuel sales were also down by 4.9 percent. Food products, beverages and tobacco managed to score higher sales, up 5 percent in February month-on-month.
