Revenues and profit down for Romtelecom in Romania, impacted by interconnection tariffs and landline segment drop
Telecom company Romtelecom saw its revenues down by 9.2 percent in Romania in the first quarter of the year, to some EUR 145.5 million, while its EBITDA profit was also down by 5.7 percent, to some EUR 38.1 million. According to majority shareholder OTE, the drop on the landline telephony segment and a drop in 24 percent from revenues on the interconnection segment caused the decline in revenues.
TV services revenues were however up by 9.2 percent, while its broadband Internet services also had 6.5 percent higher revenues.
Romtelecom also saw a smaller number of clients on the voice segment, some 2.3 million, down from 2.44 million April 2012. The number of broadband Internet service subscribers was of 1.2 million, up from 1.15 million. Romtelecom also had 1.27 million TV services subscribers, up from 1.19 million.
The company plans to focus on TV and Internet services for residential users this year too, after recently giving free minutes to landline subscribers.
