Rivals Orange and Vodafone agree to share mobile telephony networks in Romania
Telecom rivals Orange and Vodafone recently agreed to share their networks in Romania, which will allow both companies to continue to invest in their 4G networks in Romania, as well as better cover the country's rural areas.
“Both Orange and Vodafone will operate independently the spectrum they have and will keep their strategic control over commutation networks, by completely separating them, which will ensure the network differentiation and total commercial and competitive independence. The companies will continue to compete on all products and services,” reads a statements from the two companies.
Orange and Vodafone are the two largest telecom providers in Romania based on the number of clients and their turnovers.
Orange had EUR 913 million in revenues in Romania in 2012, and 10.2 million customers at the end of the year. Vodafone had revenues of around EUR 740 million for the fiscal year which ended on March 31, and 8 million customers at end of March.
