Romanian government preparing aid for Syrian population impacted by earthquake
The Romanian government recently approved a resolution providing urgent humanitarian aid, free of charge, for the Syrian Arab Republic. The aid is aimed at the population affected by the earthquake that occurred in February with an epicenter in Turkey.
The aid consists of products taken from the Romanian state reserve - tents, beds, mattresses, blankets, sleeping bags, hats, padded suits, and clothing, as well as canned vegetables and powdered milk, worth approximately RON 1.9 mln (excluding VAT). The transportation of the aid package will be carried out by the Ministry of National Defense.
"The support is granted based on the request for international assistance initiated by the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic through the European Civil Protection Mechanism in the context of efforts made to mitigate the negative effects of the earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023, on Turkish territory," stated a press release from the government cited by G4Media.
The necessary funds for replenishing the state reserve stock are provided from the revenues of the Activity for Operational Interventions and Replenishment of Diminished Stocks, established alongside the National Administration of State Reserves and Special Issues.
