Romania's Govt. to sign with US firm for armored transporter production
Romania’s Government will sign a memorandum with the US group General Dynamics next week to produce an 8X8 armored transporter at a plant in Bucharest, said the economy minister Mihai Fifor, reports local Mediafax.
The Government also has a project with Rheinmetall to produce 8X8 armored transporters in Moreni, Dambovita county, the minister added. Moreover, similar projects could be developed in two factories in Ploiesti for the production of missiles in the next period, according to Fifor.
The talks with Rheinmetall and General Dynamics “have been very clear”, the minister said.
“We are producing a Romanian product, (...) with German or American technology transfer to Romania,” Fifor added.
The Romanian Army will be the first customer.
Romania has pledged to spend 2% of its GDP on defense starting this year with much of this sum going into new military equipment.
