Update: Romania authorities declare state of alert in regions affected by snowstorms
Romania authorities have issued a state of alert for the three counties most affected by snow storms: Buzau, Brala and Vrancea, which were under a Code Red for snowstorms for six hours on Sunday (January 26).
Now under a Code Orange and expected to go under a Code Yellow – which are issued by meteorologists, the three counties, once under a state of alert, would have access to more funding to fight the bad weather.
Many villages in these counties are still isolated as the snowstorms have closed down roads. Other villages, especially in Buzau county, have witnessed power outages.
The railway between Buzau and Faurei is also blocked, and a train with 130 people in stuck in the city of Buzau.
It was almost impossible for intervention teams to clean up roads during the snowstorms over last weekend. Meteorologists however say the storms should calm down over the next few days, but it sill continue to snow towards the end of the week in the same affected regions in the south and south – east of Romania.
