Romania, behind Bulgaria and most of Eastern Europe in Newsweek’s top of 100 countries in the world
Romania ranks 39th in the top of 100 countries in the world published by US magazine Newsweek. The ranking takes into account education, health, quality of life, economic dynamism, and political environments in 100 countries in the world. Romania came one place behind Bulgaria and also behind most of the Eastern European countries. Romania is however better off than Kuwait, Panama, Peru, the United Arab Emirates and Uruguay, which come immediately after in the top.
When it comes to the EU ranking, Romania comes second to last, being ahead of only Albania. The country was included in the middle income group, which features a gross national income per capita of between USD 3.946 and USD 12,195. In terms of population, Romania is still in the medium group, with the number of inhabitants between 20 and 50 million.
Several factors were taken into account in creating the ranking. Education, health, quality of life, economic dynamism, and political environment. Romania scored 68.99 in total, with the best result in the political environment, which placed the country 36th based on this criterion. The quality of life in the country has also brought a good position – 38th. Economic dynamism and health pushed the country further back to the 56th and the 50th place respectively. Based on education, Romania ranks 49th in the world.
The country has an income of USD 8,330 per capita. It also comes with a 97.3 percent literacy rate and 13.8 average years of schooling. In terms of health, the healthy life expectancy is of 65 years. Only 4 percent of the population is living on less than USD 2 a day, according to the Newsweek ranking. An unemployment rate of 7.6 percent was included in the calculation, along with 2.5 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.
The country's innovation index stays at 3.10. The number of business start time days is of ten, while the time until solving an insolvency, 3.3 years. The country ranks high in political stability – with a score of 70.5.
