Romania, below the EU average on waste incineration
Romania incinerates 1.5 million tonnes of waste every year, to recover energy. This equals 75 kg per capita, over two and a half times less than the EU-28 average, which stands at 195 kg per capita.
The European Environment Agency has published a report on waste management in Romania, within the campaign "Generation Awake", reports local Capitalro.
An inadequate recycling infrastructure is one of the reasons for Romania's low performance, reads the report.
Romania ranks sixth for the waste produced per capita in the EU. Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Finland, Estonia and Sweden rank better than Romania.
The European Environment Agency is an EU institution that aims to provide independent and reliable environment information.
