Romania has biggest salary inequality ratio in EU
The 20% best-paid employees in Romania earned 7.2 times more than the 20% worst-paid employees in 2014, according to EU’s statistical office Eurostat, reports local Ziarul Financiar.
At EU level, the inequality ratio reached 5.2. The rate is calculated as the ratio between the average income of the 20% best-paid employees and the average salaries of the 20% worst-paid employees.
During 2000 and 2014, the inequality ratio grew from 4.5 to 5.2 in the EU. However, in Romania the ratio grew from 4.5 to 7.2 during this period. This shows that the gap between Romania and the EU significantly increased, said Cezar Mereuta, researcher within the Romanian Academy.
