Southeastern Romania under blizzard, freezing temperatures overall
Seven counties in Romania are under an orange code of blizzard beginning the morning of February 28, while 27 other counties and Bucharest are under an orange code of frost.
Strong winds, snow blizzard and low visibility are forecast for the counties of Giurgiu, Călăraşi, Ialomiţa, Buzău, Brăila, Constanţa and Tulcea, in southeastern Romania. The wind is expected to reach speeds of 55-65 km per hour, even 70 km per hour in some places. The orange code is in place until 20:00.
At the same time, the regions of Muntenia, Dobrogea, and the southern part of Oltenia and Moldova are under a yellow code for snow, strong winds and blizzard. The code is in place until 23:00.
Bucharest and 27 counties in Moldova, eastern Transylvania, Oltenia, Muntenia and Dobrogea are under an orange code for frost until March 1 at 10:00. The highest temperatures are expected to range in between -12 and -8 degrees Celsius, and the lowest ones between -22 and -12 degrees Celsius. The wind gusts will only intensify the perceived cold sensation. Throughout the remaining half of the country there will be a yellow code for cold as temperatures are expected to go down 10 to 15 degrees below what is considered normal for this time of the year.
The weather has already impacted the road, railway and air traffic.
The A2 highway, connecting Bucharest to the Black Sea port of Constanta, and the A4 highway, also in Constanta county, remain closed, as do 14 national roads and 47 country roads in Constanţa, Călăraşi, Giurgiu, Ialomiţa, Ilfov, Teleorman, Vrancea, Dolj, and Vaslui.

All four ports at the Black Sea, Constanţa Nord, Constanţa Sud Agigea, Midia and Mangalia, are currently closed. In Tulcea county, Bara Sulina is also closed. Because of the strong winds, the frontier ferry crossing points at Turnu Măgurele – Nikopol and Zimnicea – Svishtov are closed as well.
