Romania brings home four gold medals from the International Chemistry Olympiad
Romania won four medals at the 47th International Chemistry Olympiad, which took place in Baku (Azerbaijan) between July 20 and July 29.
The Romanian students got two gold medals, one silver and one bronze and finished sixth in the overall country ranking, of a total of 79 countries, and first in Europe, according to the Ministry of Education.
Romanians Dumitru Calugaru and Andrei Iliescu got the gold medals and ranked among the ten best scores in the competition. Calugaru graduated the Tudor Vladimirescu National College in Targu Jiu this year while Iliescu finished 12th grade at the International Informatics High School in Bucharest.
Paul Haidu-Gerea, from the Mircea cel Batran College in Constanta, got the silver medal, and Vlad Mihai Mandric got the bronze.
Dumitru Calugaru, Andrei Iliescu, and Paul Haidu-Gerea also got gold and silver medals at the Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad in Russia earlier this year.
