Romanian courts, understaffed, with over 240 vacant positions for judges

28 February 2014

Judicial courts in Romania need more than 1,000 clerks and currently have 242 vacant positions for judges, a situation triggered by recent massive retirements, according to the President of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), Judge Adrian Bordea, quoted by local Mediafax.

Bordea added that according to a project and a recommendation made by the World Bank, courts currently lack 1,000 clerks, and in this context, the CSM and the Ministry of Justice have tried to reduce staff shortages in stages.

According to him, a first step was taken starting September 2013, when 90 clerk positions were opened for competition for the National School of Clerks, reports Mediafax. After their training, the 90 clerks will be distributed in courts.

The second stage is to take place in March this year.
