Romania’s star swimmer David Popovici shines at Sette Colli Trophy competition
Romanian swimmer David Popovici won two gold medals at the Sette Colli Trophy competition held in Rome, coming in first in the 100m and 200m races.
Popovici won the 100m freestyle race, covering the two lengths of the pool in the final in 48.10 seconds, a new competition record. Alessandro Miressi (Italy) finished the race in second place, with 48.27 seconds, while Matthew Richards (Great Britain) completed the podium with 48.28, according to GSP.
On Sunday, June 25, the Romanian swimmer also won the 200m freestyle final, as announced by the Romanian Swimming Federation on their Facebook page.
"David Popovici concluded his performances at the 59th edition of the Sette Colli Trophy in the style of a great champion. Tonight, in Rome, the Romanian swimmer took first place in the final of the 200m freestyle event. His time: 1:45.49 min., a new competition record! Therefore, after winning the final in the 100m freestyle yesterday, Adrian Rădulescu's student also prevailed in the 200m freestyle. He was followed in the rankings by Thomas Dean (Great Britain) - 1:46.96 min. and Stefano Di Cola (Italy) - 1:46.90 min," the federation announced.
