Romania down in prosperity index

Romania went down five positions in a prosperity ranking for 2014, and was outpaced by neighbors Hungary and Bulgaria, as well as by countries such as Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Belize, according to a study by Legatum.

Romania ranks 60th, below many other countries in the region, Slovenia (24), the Czech Republic (29), Poland (31), Slovakia (35), Hungary (39), Bulgaria (48) and Croatia (50).

Romania managed to surpass Jamaica – 61, Ukraine – 63 and Montenegro – 65. The country’s weakest result was on the social capital and economy front, ranking 109th, and 88th, respectively.

A total of 142 countries were analyzed for this ranking. Top of the ranking is Norway, for the sixth year in a row, followed by Switzerland, New Zealand, Denmark, Canada, Sweden, Australia, Finland, The Netherlands, and UK.
