Romania expels 12 of the 60 immigrants who entered the country illegally in January

11 February 2016

The Romanian authorities have decided to expel 12 of the 60 immigrants who entered the country illegally at the end of January. The migrants came from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Morocco, and Iraq.

The immigration inspectors have rejected their asylum applications because their documents and stories have raised suspicions.

The situation is still unclear for other 43 immigrants, local Digi24 reports. Officers from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) are currently trying to find out if the men have any connections with terrorist organizations.

The foreigners who arrive in Romania and obtain a form of protection are accommodated in six centers in Bucharest, Galati, Timisoara, Radauti, Maramures, and Giurgiu. They receive around RON 6 (EUR 1.3) per day.
