Romania is the fastest growing destination for UK tourists, with an average growth of 24% per year in the period 2007-2017, according to an analysis of British travel agency On The Go Tours.
The total increase in the last decade was of 638%, from 48,000 visitors in 2007 to 347,000 in 2017.
The growth reported for Romania is well above the one recorded by Lithuania, the second fastest-rising destination for UK tourists (+187%). Mexico comes third with a 145% increase in UK visitors, followed by Hungary (+70%) and United Arab Emirates (+64%).
The same analysis showed that 14 out of the 20 fastest growing holiday destinations for UK tourists are European countries. Among them, Poland – which welcomed about 57% more British tourists over the past decade, Portugal (up 50%), and Denmark (up 45%).
The travel agency used data from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) 2018 Tourism Highlights Report for this analysis.
