Romanian national football team eliminated from European U21 Championship
The Romanian national football team ended its matches in Group A of the European U21 Championship without scoring a goal. Its last match ended with a draw against Croatia.
The Romanian team performed well in the first half of the match against the Croatian team. In minute 19, Octavian Popescu made a great pass to Louis Munteanu, who was kept from scoring by goalkeeper Pandur. A similar attempt was stopped by the Croatian goalkeeper in minute 23, G4Media reports.
Romania had some tense moments in minute 38 when Târnovanu first intervened in Baturina's shot, then in Beljo's shot, and then Vidovic’s shot hit the crossbar. The first half ended with no goals. By comparison, the second half did not excel in goal opportunities for either of the teams.
Romania finished the group in last place with one point, without scoring a goal and conceding four.
Emil Săndoi, the coach of the Romanian U21 team, announced at the end of Tuesday evening's match against Croatia that he will most likely leave his position as the head of the national team.
