Romania, fourth market in the region for Lidl based on sales
Romania was the fourth country in Central and Eastern Europe for German retailer Lidl in 2014.
Lidl Romania had sales of over EUR 788 million, and was surpassed by Lidl’s subsidiaries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, according to Deloitte’s ranking of the biggest 500 companies in Central and Easter Europe, reports local Profit.ro.
The retailer’s sales in Romania grew by 12.3% compared to 2013, when the company reported a turnover of over EUR 700 million. In Poland, the German group’s sales reached EUR 2.7 billion whereas in the Czech Republic they totaled EUR 1.1 billion, and in Slovakia EUR 795 million.
Lidl Romania recorded a higher turnover compared to Lidl Hungary, where the sales reached over EUR 735 million.
Lidl, which is part of the German group Schwarz, entered the local market in 2010, when it bought the Plus stores from the group Tengelmann. It currently has a network of 188 stores in Romania.
