Romania came out fourth in a recent Central and Eastern European ranking, with 48 of the 500 companies included in the ranking. By turnover, it came fifth, with EUR 46.4 billion generated by these companies, and by profit, third, with EUR 2 billion profits in 2013.

In the previous ranking by Coface, Romania had six more companies. The 2013 results show a 6.3% turnover growth for Romanian companies, and a net profit rate of 3.3%, according to Constantin Coman, country manager with Coface Romania.

Oil and gas industries rank first in the region, as well as in Romania, followed by energy, auto and retail. Romania is fourth by number of employees in this ranking, with 164,700 people employed by the local companies in the ranking.

Automobile Dacia is at 19, OMV Petrom – 20, Rompetrol Rafinare, at 42. Other companies in the ranking are Rompetrol Downstream, Kaufland România, British American Tobacco, Petrotel - Lukoil, Ford România, among others.
