Romania welcomed more foreign tourists during the first seven months of this year than in the similar period of 2010. 4.25 million foreign tourists visited the country during this period, up 1.1 percent, according to the country's Statistics Institute. Most of these visitors – 94 percent, came from European countries.

EU countries sent 57.9 percent of the visitors to Romania, with Hungary (35.8 percent), Bulgaria (17.9 percent), Germany (8.6 percent) and Italy (8.1 percent) holding the top places in the list of countries of origin. In July, 945,000 foreign visitors came to Romania, up 7.1 percent on July last year.

The number of Romanians who went abroad in the first seven months of the year was of 6.2 million, a slight growth of 0.3 percent on the same period in 2010. 1 million Romanians went abroad in July this year, up 4.9 percent compared to July 2010.
