Romania gets EUR 440 mln from EC to modernize railway segment
Romanian state-owned railway company CFR has received EUR 440 million from the European Commission to modernize the Apata - Cata railway segment within the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program.
The amount represents 81.7% of the investment, which totals EUR 538 million. The co-financing will be made from the state budget, namely EUR 98 million for the 2016-2020 period and EUR 167 million for the 2021-2023 period.
The Apata - Cata railway segment represents an important part of the rehabilitation project of the Brasov - Sighisoara railway, which is part of the Rhine - Danube corridor. This would allow trains to run by maximum 160 km per hour on this segment.
