Romania gets four medals at the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad
Romania’s team, composed of four students from the International High school of Informatics in Bucharest, got four medals at the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad, namely two gold medals, a silver and a bronze.
“Thanks to this performance, Romania came 3rd in the ranking by country,” reads Ministry of Education statement.
Simona Diaconu and Andreea Magalie won the silver medals, Silvia-Elena Pripoae got a silver medal, while Marina Romina Ivan won bronze.
This year’s edition of the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad was held between April 10 and April 16 in Antalya, Turkey.
The European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad is an international mathematics competition similar in style to the International Mathematical Olympiad, with two papers taken on consecutive days. Participating countries send teams consisting of four female mathematicians of school age.
In 2012, the competition was held in the UK, while in 2013 it was organized in Luxembourg. The 2015 edition will be held in Belarus.
