Romania has fewer pensioners, but average monthly pension up 4% in 2013

The average number of pensioners in Romania dropped to some 5.41 million in 2013, according to the recent data provided by the National Statistics Institute INS.

The average monthly pension was of RON 805 (some EUR 182) last year, up 4.1 percent year-on-year, and with 6.9 percent higher compared to 2011.

The highest average pension of RON 1,022 (EUR 231) was recorded in Bucharest, while the lowest was in Giurgiu county - RON 648 (EUR 146).

The Labor Minister Rovana Plumb recently said that almost 234,000 Romanians who retired after January 1, 2011, will receive slightly higher pensions by end-March this year.
