Romania has second largest decline in industrial production in the EU
Romania, Malta, and Finland recorded the most significant industrial production declines in the European Union in January compared to the previous month.
The industrial production grew by 2.1% in the Eurozone and by 1.7% in the European Union, according to the European Union’s statistical office Eurostat.
In Romania, the industrial production went down by -2.3%. Only Malta posted a bigger decline, with -5%. Ireland recorded the biggest growth in industrial production, namely 12.7%, followed by Estonia (4.9%), Croatia (3.2%) and Germany (2.9%).
Romania also posted one of the biggest industrial production declines in the EU compared to January 2015, of -1.7%. Only Malta (-8.9%), Netherlands (-3.9%), and Finland (-1.9%) had bigger drops. The industry’s evolution has been correlated with the weak evolution of Romania’s exports in January.
