Romania ranks first in the European Union for the share of homeowners, but it is also the country where half of the population lives in overcrowded households.

The percentage dropped compared to 2014, when 52.3% of Romanians lived in such conditions.

By comparison, only 16.7% of the population in EU lived, on average, in similar conditions. Poland comes after Romania for overcrowded homes, with a share of 43.4% in 2015. Cyprus ranked best, with only 1.4% of the population living in overcrowded homes.
