Romania imports apples, despite big local production
Romania imports apples from Bulgaria, even if its own production is almost ten times higher than Bulgaria’s.
Last year Romania had a production of 535.1 million kilograms, whereas Bulgaria’s production amounted to 54.5 million kilograms, reports local Economica.net.
In January this year, Romania bought from Bulgaria 4.2 million kilograms, worth EUR 1.9 million. In 2014, the apple imports from Bulgaria reached EUR 15.1 million, double over 2012.
Between January and February this year, Romania imported 19.2 million kilograms of apples, worth EUR 5 million.
