Ion Creanga is a Moldavian-born writer and school teacher who became a well known figure in 19th century literature in Romania. Creanga (1839-1889) is best know for his Childhood Memories and for the contribution to fantasy and children's literature, with tales such as "Harap Alb", "Ivan Turbincă", "Dănilă Prepeleac", "Stan Păţitul" and fairy tales like "The Story of the Pig", "The Goat and Her Three Kids", "The Mother with Three Daughters-in-Law", "The Old Man's Daughter and the Old Woman's Daughter.

His works are seen as masterpieces of Romanian language and filled with local humor.

Creanga was best friends with national poet Mihai Eminescu.
