Romania introduces electronic toll system on October 1st
Romania’s public road authority CNADNR will introduce the electronic road toll system on October 1 and drivers without proof of its payment will be charged compensation between EUR 28 and EUR1,210, depending on the type of vehicle, and will be fined. CNADNR will also introduce a road toll sticker valid for three months, according to a Transport Ministry press release on Thursday.
Already purchased stickers will remain valid for their duration. Compensation for a missing or invalid sticker will amount to EUR 28 for cars, EUR 96 for cargo carriers weighing up to 3.5 tons, EUR 320 tons for trucks weighing between 3.5 and 7.5 tons, EUR 560 for trucks weighing between 7.5 and 12 tons, as well as for passenger carriers with more than 23 seats, EUR 720 tons for trucks heavier than 12 tons, which have 3 axles, and EUR 1,210 for 4-axled vehicles heavier than 12 tons.
Fines will be between EUR 58 and RON 117 for cars, EUR 176 - 281 for vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons, and can reach EUR 1,056 for trucks heavier than 12 tons which have 4 axles.
The sticker can be bought from any CNADNR office, petrol stations MOL, Rompetrol, Petrom and OMV, Post offices, the National Union of Romanian Road Transporters, or from distributors Scalla, Speedy, Medina and Pasaj.
