Romania is ready to deal with any situation on gas supply, minister says

15 April 2014

Romania is ready to deal with any sort of situation regarding the supply of Russian gas, in the context of tensions between Russia and Ukraine, according to Razvan Nicolescu, Minister Delegate for Energy.

“We expect the European Commission to give a common European response to the present situation. In the current context, Romania is ready to deal with any situation that might appear in the supply of natural gas,” said the minister.

Romania imports from Russia some 25 percent of its needed gas every year.

Earlier this month, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta also said that Russia’s potential shutdown of gas supplies to Ukraine would not affect Romania on the short term, but if such a situation lasts for a longer period, the country would need to develop its internal gas production.
