Romania keeps same position in CEE in new Deloitte Central Europe Top 500

04 September 2014

Romania continues to hold the fifth position in the Deloitte Central Europe Top 500, with 42 Romanian companies in the ranking. This was 7 companies more than in last year’s edition. These 42 companies have revenues of EUR 43 billion, up 10.2% on 2013.

The most spectacular rise came for Ford Romania, which was up 258 positions, to the 170th place, according to Deloitte Romania, which launched the report in a conference Wednesday, September 3.

The country has 16 companies which improved their rankings in this year’s edition and 9 new entries while 29 local companies reported increased revenues as compared to 14 in 2012.

“Against the CE quite austere landscape, Romania has recorded some positive moves, i.e. more companies growing than declining (29 out of 42) when compared to CE’s flat average, largest growth in absolute terms from 35 to 42 companies included in the ranking and the biggest jump in the ranking by 258 positions recorded by Ford Romania. They are all encouraging signs and proof of the continuous growing capacity of Romania, whose economic performance has not yet matched its potential in size and population,” said George Mucibabici, Chairman&Public Sector Leader Deloitte.

Energy companies are the first in this ranking, with OMV Petrom holding the first position. Second comes Automobile Dacia car maker, and third comes oil and gas company Rompetrol Rafinare, while retailer Kaufland is fifth.

Romania’s energy sector as mirrored in the ranking has total revenues of EUR 19.1 bilion, followed by the consumer goods industry and transport, with EUR 12.1 billion, while manufacturing had revenues of EUR 8.1 billion, and the IT&C, tech and media, EUR 2.3 billion.

The ranking of the largest banks and insurance firms shows the same number as the year before: six banks and four insurance companies. With assets totaling EUR 51.1 billion, the sector registered a slight decrease from a EUR 52.1 billion the year before. Raiffeisen Bank and Banca Transilvania registered the biggest growth but Banca Comerciala Romana got first place.
