Romania, last in the EU on health expenditures
Romania has the lowest health expenditure per capita, while the number of Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computerised tomography (CT) investigations is also the lowest in the European Union, according to a report from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the European Commission, cited by local Mediafax.
The number of doctors per 1,000 inhabitants varied in 2012 from 6.2 doctors in Greece, to 4.9 in Austria, 4.4 in Lithuania, 2.5 in Romania and Slovenia and 2.2 in Poland.
The highest number of annual consultations based on the number of inhabitants was registered in Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Germany, Romania ranking 19th in the European Union.
When it comes to nurses, the European average is of 8 nurses per one thousand inhabitants, according to the 2012 data. There are 15.4 nurses per one thousand inhabitants in Denmark, 14.1 in Finland and 12.6 in Ireland. The lowest number is recorded in Greece – 3.6, while in Romania the number stays at 5.8.
