Romania may introduce new environment tax for cars this year
A new environment tax for cars may be introduced in Romania this summer, according to sources quoted by the public television TVR.
The tax may be applied for three years, at the moment of the first registration in Romania. After these three years, it may be replaced with a progressive yearly tax paid by all drivers.
The new environment tax will be determined based on the pollution category and the CO2 emissions and will be between EUR 50 and EUR 3,000. This is only a working version, according to the same sources.
The new tax may be introduced as early as this summer.
Romania removed the environment tax on February 1, 2017. As a result, used car registrations went through the roof in the past year. In 2017, over 630,000 used cars were registered in Romania.
