Romania pays back EUR 420 mln worth of EU funds
Romania had to pay over EUR 420 million worth of EU funds. The sum represents financial corrections due to irregularities in the Human Resources Development Sectorial Operational Programme (POSDRU), said the new EU Funds Minister Cristian Ghinea.
Representatives of the European Commission and Romanian authorities met earlier this week to talk about the measures Romania needed to undertake to avoid such irregularities. The common mission conducted by the Audit Authority and the European Commission noticed that the error rate for the application sent to the EC at the end of December 31 dropped.
POSDRU had an absorption rate of 54.5% at the end of April this year. It is the programme with the weakest absorption rate in the 2007-2013 financial period.
