Romania plans changes to emergency intervention system after four dead in medical helicopter crash
The intervention system in emergency situations will undergo changes listed in an emergency ordinance, to achieve greater efficiency and a better use of the resources available to the Emergency Department, said Prime Minister Victor Ponta. The decision follows the SMURD medical helicopter crash in the Siutghiol Lake when four people died.
"We've analyzed the risk categories in each county in relation to their specific features and resources available for immediate action," said Interior Minister Gabriel Oprea. The data resulting from this analysis will help develop the Unique Intervention Concept for Integrated Action in Emergencies Situations, which will be presented to the National Committee for Special Emergency Situations, Oprea added. The exact measures and changes to the system have not yet been announced. However, the Transport and Defense Ministers will also contribute people and logistics for emergency situations. There will also be a single committee within the Government tasked with emergency situations, according to sources quoted by Mediafax.
After the crash, the Government sacked the head of the Aviation Inspectorate within the Domestic Affairs Ministry, Dorel Gradinaru.
