Romania plans new changes for green certificates support scheme

18 December 2013

Romania will make new changes in the green certificates support scheme, however the alterations will only affect projects becoming operational next year.

“From January 1, 2014, new wind projects will receive 1.5 green certificates per MWh instead of two, solar projects will get three instead of six, while hydropower plants will receive 2.3 certificates instead of three,” said Niculae Havrilet, president of the energy market regulator ANRE, quoted by local daily Zf.ro.

The change applies only to new projects and is not cumulated with the changes that entered into force on July 1.

Green energy projects saw a change in the support scheme in early July this year, when the Romanian Government decided to postpone granting a part of the green certificates to investors in renewable energy.
