Romania plans to upgrade judicial system with electronic court files

21 February 2014

Romania’s Ministry of Justice plans to start digitizing court documents this year, so that people would have electronic files, instead of paper - based ones, said minister Robert Cazanciuc.

“I hope we can also start this year a large project of computerization at a national level, so that people have electronic files and not actually come to the court, to not load the courts,” said Robert Cazaciuc during a press conference, quoted by local news agency Mediafax.

According to him, following the implementation of this project, court clerks would be able to deal with what is rather related to administrating a file than procedures that require very long periods of time.

Lengthy procedures are among Romanian justice system 's problems, with many trials extending over years and resulting in very thick paper files.
