Romania – presidential elections: who goes to the second round?
Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta came first in the first tour of the presidential elections on Sunday, November 2, with between 38% and 41% of the votes, according to exit poll results published by Mediafax newswire.
Klaus Iohannis, the mayor of Sibiu and the president of the National Liberal Party (PNL), came second, with 31% to 32% of the votes.
Four exit polls were made during the day of the elections, and their results clearly show that Ponta and Iohannis will face each other in the second round of the elections, on November 16.
The other candidates are ways behind. Former prime minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu, and former ministers Elena Udrea and Monica Macovei got between 4% and 6% of the votes, the exit poll results show.
